Geography Researcher

Deborah Lambert is a postdoctoral researcher in geography at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her research focuses on the imaginaries at work in urban transitions, seeking to understand how communities negotiate transformative futures and ground them in material and spatial practices. Through a lens of political ecology and cultural political economy, she analyzes the links between policy, practice, and imaginaries to critically assess transition pathways and open spaces for debating post-capitalist alternatives. In her recent work, she has been integrating interdisciplinary and creative methods—particularly speculative storytelling and collaborative drawing—to explore how these tools can foster collective empowerment and reclaim the future. She brings to this research a deep expertise in transformative transitions, cultivated since 2006 through a hybrid practice of academia, policy work, and engagement with international NGOs.
