Kevin Hamilton

Kevin Hamilton is a media artist, scholar, and administrator on faculty at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he also serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. Working in collaborative and cross-disciplinary modes, Kevin produces artworks, archives, and scholarship on such subjects as race and space, public memory, history of technology, and state violence. His vanguard work on the history of nuclear test photography resulted in Lookout America! (Dartmouth 2019), the only exhaustive study of the Air Force film studio responsible for documenting America’s nuclear weapons tests. Kevin’s work on histories of cybernetics have resulted in a commissioned public artwork, a performance, and a self-produced comic; other comics-based explorations have included performances exploring artist Bill Griffith’s Zippy the Pinhead as an avatar of U.S. westward expansion. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Leonardo Series for MIT Press, and is a co-founder of Ground Works, an online journal for arts-integrative scholarship.
