PhD Candidate

I am a Digital Humanities researcher and PhD candidate at Lancaster University. My work examines how comics pages function as multimodal epistemic media, focusing on how page-level visual relations support complex sense-making. In my doctoral thesis, The Untapped Grid: Rethinking Educational Comics for a Post-Digital Academy, I develop the concept of the comics-fact and theorise comics pages as diagrammatic and cartographic interfaces rather than just narrative sequences. Building on this background, my current research turns to generative AI. I use AI-assisted comics and hybrid human–AI workflows to probe models’ limits in maintaining page-level coherence and to make visible the hidden labour required to repair and reassemble AI outputs. Before moving into academia, I worked for over twenty years in audiovisual production and editorial direction, specialising in multimodal storytelling and creative workflows.
