Jan Baetens

Jan Baetens is Professor Emeritus of Cultural Studies at KU Leuven, where he taught word and image studies from an interdisciplinary perspective (semiotics, history, cultural analysis). His research encompasses contemporary French poetry, visual narrative in popular print genres including comics and photo-novels, and the theory of intermediality. He has published over twenty collections of poetry, a novel, and a nonfiction comic book, and served as director of the Lieven Gevaert Centre (2004-2008).
