Professor of Visual Communication

Krantz has contributed to contemporary comics as an artist, pedagogue, editor, critic and researcher since the late 1970s. His research focuses on artistic production, forms of publications and the emergence of the field of comics in Sweden. As a comics artist he contributed to establish autobiographic comics in Sweden in the mid 1980s. In his recent project “Autographic Double Exposure – the Narrative Characteristics of the Inked Black Line in Comics” funded by The Swedish Research Council, he argues that there is a clear connection between Töpffer’s use of autography (e.g. transfer-lithography) and the contemporary use of risography, both in terms of artistic practice and publishing.
